Sustainable Waste Management Training Course in Netherlands!

We’re thrilled to announce that Lorelei Youth Centre recently participated in the Erasmus+ Training Course “Creating Leaders Environmentally Adapted to Needs” in Arnhem, Netherlands! 🇳🇱 This inspiring project took place from February 14th – 22nd, 2024, and brought together passionate youth workers from across Europe to tackle one of the most pressing issues of our time: waste management.

About the Project:

The project, under Erasmus+ agreement code 2023-1-NL02-KA153-YOU-000132720, focuses on equipping youth workers with tools and knowledge to promote zero waste practices and sustainable living in their communities. We explored the impact of waste on resources, learned strategies from EU Directive 2008/98/EC, and collaborated with experts to create a digital guide of best practices in zero waste.

Key Project Goals:

  • Empower youth workers with skills to lead sustainable waste management initiatives.
  • Promote zero waste principles and practices in everyday life.
  • Foster ecological competence and environmental leadership.
Strengthen cooperation and exchange of innovative methods in youth work.
  • Build stronger institutional capacities for lasting environmental impact.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

As part of our eco-friendly mission, we embraced green travel for this project—traveling by train and bus to reduce our carbon footprint. We also prioritized recycling, reducing food waste, and using sustainable materials throughout the program. Participants stayed at EuroParcs De Hooge Veluwe, fostering a collaborative and eco-conscious environment while preparing cultural breakfasts and sharing sustainable practices.

Participant Experience:

The 7-day program was packed with engaging sessions on topics like waste stream classification, understanding waste impact, and local action plans to foster a zero-waste culture. Our team joined 40 other participants from 10 countries in discussing how to adapt waste management strategies to specific youth needs and bring these ideas back to our communities.

What’s Next?

Our next steps involve implementing the best practices we learned here at Lorelei Youth Centre and collaborating on the creation of the Zero Waste Digital Guide in partnership with local organizations in Amsterdam. We’re excited to share these tools and resources with youth in France and beyond! Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for supporting our mission to build a greener, more sustainable future! Together, we can make a lasting impact.
